"6 Critical Elements for Teaching Individuals with ASD," with Lori Ernsperger, Ph.D.

Increasing numbers of students are being identified with pervasive developmental disorders which include autism and Asperger Syndrome. School personnel are faced with a growing number of instructional strategies and quick-fix approaches to meet the unique needs of this growing population. Dr. Lori Ernsperger will engage you in a highly interactive and fast-paced seminar addressing the many questions and concerns you have as a special education teacher, general education teacher, paraprofessional, or therapist who works with these students. She will share evidence based practices and strategies for increasing learning and promoting positive behavior, along with ready-to-implement ways to develop predictable schedules, organize the environment, create behavior intervention plans, and collect data for progress monitoring. You will leave this conference with dozens of ideas and strategies to help you make a real difference in your student’s learning.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012
"No More Meltdowns: Handling Challenging Behaviors & Teaching Social Skills," with Jed Baker, Ph.D.

This workshop is about understanding challenging behaviors in ASD and other social communication disorders, with an overview of behavior management techniques. Specific, user-friendly strategies and techniques for providing relevant social skills instruction to children and teens with ASD will be shared at this workshop. Enjoyable socialization methods are emphasized so individuals may experience success and desire to build skills. Social deficits and disruptive behavior affect life at home, school and eventually in the workplace. Conference participants will learn both highly beneficial strategies that can be used across a variety of settings and routines; and practical and effective solutions to assist "typical" peers, family members and professionals in increasing their successful support of individuals with ASD.
